Inspired by Jacob Collier’s custom 5-string Taylor acoustic, the JCSM-5 is a unique signature model designed in collaboration with the renowned singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. Featuring Taylor’s compact Grand Concert body shape, this guitar is crafted with solid, Select-grade Hawaiian koa for the top, back, and sides, showcasing rich natural variegation. The ebony fretboard, bridge, and headstock overlay exhibit beautiful marbling, blending deep espresso and warm caramel tones. With its distinctive wood grain and character, each JCSM-5 is a truly one-of-a-kind instrument.
Like Jacob’s personal Taylor guitar, the JCSM-5 is tuned to DAEAD, providing the same unique voicing he favors. For beginners, this alternate tuning simplifies chord shapes, making the guitar more approachable. For advanced players, it unlocks a fresh tonal landscape, encouraging creative exploration and new musical discoveries.
Jacob's fascination with a 5-string acoustic guitar tuned to DAEAD stemmed from his unconventional introduction to the instrument. As a young musician, his experience playing bass and exposure to a 4-string tenor guitar tuned in fifths shaped his unique perspective. Though he considered himself a guitar novice at the time, his deep understanding of music and harmonic relationships enabled him to recognize the voicing possibilities that this distinctive tuning could offer.
