1973 Fender Precision Bass with Original Case
Tobias Music - Chicago Area’s Finest Guitars
Extremely nice Fender P Bass 1973. Very low mileage on this one and very clean. Some minor surface scratches but no major nicks or dings. Sat in it’s case for a few decades. Hard to find one this old and in this nice of condition. Original pickup and bridge covers. No original paperwork or case candy. Case is in good shape but one latch is broken.
Only a couple mods over the years. Original pickup was recently rewound by the premier techs at Third Coast Guitar Service in Chicago, IL. Also, at some point in it’s history, someone did some minor routing of the neck pocket. Does not affect playability and visually hard to see. See pictures of routing below. Pictures taken with neck off.
As the first production model bass guitar, the Fender Precision bass was an absolutely revolutionary instrument upon its introduction in 1951. The Precision or P Bass evolved throughout the ‘50s with changing electronics, body shape, and cosmetic details. P Basses from after the CBS Fender buyout of 1965 (which brought more of a mass-production style of construction) are of less interest to collectors than their earlier counterparts. By the end of the decade, notable changes include a new thicker polyester finish and a F-style tuning gears.
