Beautiful example of a 1930 Martin 0-18K. This guitar arrived at our shop in rough condition, but the expert luthiers at the renowned Third Coast Guitar Service in Chicago, IL, worked their magic to restore it to life. It retains plenty of vintage character and charm. All restoration work was completed in Fall 2022.
At some point in its history, the original bridge had been replaced with a 6-1/2” plywood substitute that was screwed directly into the top, which also had a crack. Third Coast removed the makeshift bridge, repaired the top, and installed a new ebony Martin bridge. The two screw holes were expertly patched—visible in the photos.
Due to the extent of the top repairs, the entire guitar was refinished. The neck was reset, and a traditional bar fret refret was performed. The bridge plate was also replaced.
This guitar is now in excellent condition and plays beautifully. Thanks to the outstanding work by Third Coast Guitar Service, it’s fully revitalized and ready for another 90 years of music. A truly great vintage instrument.
